The Ambergris.Shop collection is very unique due to it being of single origin. The Ambergris.Shop collection comprises many pieces of high quality white ambergris which derive a single large block or coprolith that washed up on the shores of very remote beaches on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand during April 2017.

The large block, believed to weigh in excess of 100 kgs at the time, broke up into hundreds of pieces upon impact with land and the pieces of ambergris were then dispersed along 20 kilometres of remote and isolated beaches, to be eroded to varying degrees. Its subsequent discovery was by luck.

The large block of white ambergris was believed to have originated in the Southern Ocean and had floated on northward ocean currents into the often volatile Tasman Sea where the westward winds forced the block ashore. The block of ambergris was estimated to be between 10 and 15 years aged at the time.

Being of single origin the Ambergris.Shop collection is ideal for high end perfume manufacture. Most pieces are very mild and consistent in aroma allowing perfumers to manufacture to a larger scale.

The Ambergris.Shop collection also has variety. Because the collection consists of hundreds of pieces, each represents a position in the original block and that position provides different aroma profiles. For example ambergris material that was inside the block was not subject to wind, sun or surf so has a slightly stronger aroma profile to that material which derived from the surface of the block which was exposed to sun, wind and surf. Ambergris exists for all types of fragrances.
